Chunli Sunshine Program – Knee Hope for You

"Spring Sunshine Project" Introduction

The Chunli Sunshine Program is a key medical initiative launched through collaboration between Chunli Medical and the China Charity Federation in August 2009. Each year, Chunli Medical donates artificial joint products worth RMB 1,000,000 to the China Charity Federation, providing free internal fixation materials required for artificial joint replacement surgeries to impoverished patients suffering from severe joint diseases.

Case Presentation

Patient Profile: Yu, Male, 85 years old.

Chief Complaint: Right knee pain with limited mobility for over 10 years, exacerbated in the past month.

Present Illness History: The patient developed right knee pain, swelling and limited mobility more than 10 years ago without obvious cause. The pain was dull and aggravated by movement and stair climbing, which could be relieved by bed rest. The patient did not receive specific treatment. One month ago, he felt the right knee pain gradually worsened, with difficulty in weight-bearing and obvious limping during walking. The pain disturbed his sleep when turning over at night, so he was admitted to our hospital. He was admitted for treatment under the preliminary diagnosis of right knee osteoarthritis in the outpatient department.Physical Examination: Mild varus deformity of the right knee with a range of motion (ROM) of 5–90 degrees. All supplementary examinations were normal. The patient underwent total right knee arthroplasty. He got out of bed and walked on the second day after surgery and was discharged five days postoperatively. A re-examination one month after surgery showed good healing of the knee incision, and the patient was able to walk without a walker. The patient was satisfied with the treatment outcome.
